About us

Established in 2023, the Afghan Community of Michigan has supported over 400 Afghan men and women by connecting them with essential resources across Lansing and its surrounding areas. The organization empowers Afghan youth by helping them build a strong peer network, form a dedicated youth group, and volunteer within the community. Beyond youth engagement, the community offers critical language interpretation for public assistance meetings and provides tailored employment support. Our ultimate mission is to help every Afghan in Michigan successfully settle, thrive, and achieve complete independence.

What’s happening in our community

Civic Engagement program

Community members attended IRRC’s Civic Engagement program to learn about U.S. citizenship requirements, the application process, interview and test preparation, and available community resources. Guest speakers represented state government, immigration legal services, refugee services, and Michigan’s refugee and immigrant affairs.

August 13, 2026

IRRC Economic Development Conference

More than 35 Afghan youth and community members from Lansing and surrounding cities attended the conference in Lansing. Sessions covered economic opportunities, saving money, and starting a business in the United States.

Celebrating the Afghan Tigers

The Afghan Tigers secured a series of consecutive victories in key cricket matches in Michigan—a reflection of dedication, unity, and the growing talent within the Afghan youth community.
